I just came across your site and love your books!! I make jewelry and know the feeling of creating something you love and put your soul into. Would you ever be interested in bartering? I would love to trade creations with you sometime. Thanks for sharing your wonderful art with the world!

I love your books! The are so beautiful. I am hoping to self teach myself the art of bookbinding. I was looking at your pic of your book in progress (with the green ribbons in the book cradle) and I have what may seem a silly Q. Once the needle is inside the book, is there a trick to pulling it through and looping it into the next hole? Or is it as basic as it seems, like simple sewing? Would you suggest the book cradle as a necessary piece of equipment?

Thank you again for sharing your work. It is truly beautiful. I can't start to make my own paste paper, but one thing at a time!

Thank you Traci and Jaime for your kind comments! Traci, as for once the needle is inside the book, it really is simple sewing, no trick, just moving the needle from one hole to the next. The trick is the sewing on the outside, using the coptic stitch, and connecting the signatures. With a good tutorial though, it is easier each time and fun! It looks and seems more complicated than it is the first time you do it! After that it is smooth sailing! Also, as for your question about the necessity of the book cradle, I would say it's not so much of a necessity. However, it does make things go more smoothly while punching holes in signatures and keeping the book propped during sewing. If you'll only make a couple books, I wouldn't bother, but if you get hooked like I did and make lots and lots of books - go for it - you'll be glad you did! Good luck with your bookbinding endevours! If you have a blog I'd love to see your work!
